On May 1, Meryl Streep will grace us with Miranda Priestly’s presence once more in the sequel to the Devil Wears Prada. And while seemingly every brand on the planet has been trying to cash in on the franchise (I’ve seen everything from themed tweezers to an AMC popcorn bag), two clothing brands in particular are going head to head for the best Devil Wears Prada collection: Old Navy and Walmart’s Scoop.

Old Navy’s version, released on April 6 and ranging from $20 to $54, consists of T-shirts, sweatshirts and Andy Sachs-approved satchels. Walmart’s version, meanwhile, which opened up for pre-sale on April 10 and ranges from $16 to $54, will drop in full on April 20 under the Scoop umbrella.

A bit broader than the Old Navy collection, it houses everything from classic red heels like in the movie poster to jeans, skirts and power suits—and preorders are selling out fast.

So which collection do I think would get two nods from Miranda and which one would get the dreaded pursed lips?

My nods go to Old Navy, if only because it’s so on-the-nose. There’s an *actual* cerulean blue sweater, for pete’s sakes! One can’t help but appreciate the lengths Zac Posen & co. went to to not only honor the 2006 flick, but its beloved characters of Andy, Miranda and even Nigel, who gets his own bag. (And just like his character, it’s kind of the best.)

The Walmart Scoop collection, while far more wearable (are we really aspiring to wear the frumpy old cable-knit Miranda once ripped to shreds or is it just a cheeky nod?), doesn’t have nearly as strong of a viewpoint.

Sure, it’s more modern (I pulled the trigger on these barrel jeans) but which character can you see wearing, say, the lace-trimmed shorts or the peplum denim top? Miranda? Andy? Neither strike me as likely. *Maybe* Emily would try them, but in 2026, I’m not wholly convinced.

Based on what has been released thus far, this feels more like a collection of trendy things (I see you, fringe skirt) as opposed to a any sort of real tribute.

This is my favorite piece from the Old Navy collection (I did call the East -West trend for 2026—just saying). It’s chic, it’s functional (hello, adjustable strap) and it’s the perfect, “more than the essentials, but not overwhelming” size.

Andy’s infamous cerulean sweater gets its due in this cable-knit, “SoSoft” replica.

This workhorse of a bag is bound to be an office hero, and the chocolately faux suede will transition beautifully from summer to fall.

The best part of these wide-leg jeans might just be the tiny printed stiletto on the hip pocket. They also come in regular, tall and petite (!).

Everyone needs a classic button-down, and this one features a fun little corset at the back. Ooh la la!

2025 has officially given way to the new year, bringing with it a whole new style ballgame. If you’ve been paying close enough attention, you’ve probably already noticed the 2026 fashion trends sneaking onto the feeds of your favorite influencers and the shelves of your most-loved department stores. Some have been about as subtle as a Mack 10 truck (ahem, loafers), while others have quietly crept onto the scene in the form of a subtle croc-print accessory or a bangle that’s a bit bolder than usual.

While there are bound to be  a few quick flashes-in-the-fashion-pan, leaving you with a bit of buyer’s remorse (do we really think cow-print set will become a timeless staple?), others just might elevate your wardrobe.

Below, the five trends I think will stick around for the whole new year—and beyond.

2026 Fashion Trends

1. Croc-Print Accessories

There’s just something so elegant about croc-print. Not only can it take a boring black accessory from drab to fab, it’s absolutely beautiful in wintery shades of burgundy or navy.  Based on its quiet infiltration of bags, shoes, belts, wallets, keychains and the like, it’s about to become a prime player in the 2026 accessories space.  

2. Argyle Prints

I suspected this print was about to explode when I spotted it on both @Lucyswhims and in the ShopMy pages of Owning Manhattan’s Savannah Gowarty. Paired with the fact that it’s suddenly front and center in seemingly every retailer’s new collection, from Maje (one of my favorite Parisian brands) to Mango, and it becomes crystal clear: Argyle is gearing up for a big-time reign.

3. Cool-Girl Loafers

If you don’t own a loafer shoe by now, you’re already behind. Slowly but surely, this classic has all but replaced the ballet flat in preparation of the new year. Some influencers (a.k.a. my style north star, Coco Shiffer), have even suggested swapping your everyday sneakers for loafers is an easy way to elevate your look—and I completely agree. (Down with the dad trainers!) Technically, the Steve Madden Rafe “loafers” that are all over everyone’s feeds are mules, since they’re backless, but proper terminology aside they live up to the hype: Both the suede and the leather are ultra-soft and the footbed is surprisingly cushy.

4. Chunky Jewelry

For years, I suffered in silence as gold, dainty, minimalist jewelry dominated every wrist, ear and neck the country over, with nary a chunky ring in sight. Now, in the year 2026, the year of our jewelry savior, my prayers have finally been answered. The chokehold dainty jewels have had on you all is slowly releasing its monstrous grip. Chunky jewelry—a.k.a. the only kind of jewelry worth wearing, in my humble opinion—is once again trending on Pinterest,  and all is right with the world.

5. East-West Bags

When it comes to shopping for petites, one tends to think of shorter inseams and sleeves that don’t reach your knees. No one ever talks about the heartbreak of finding an absolutely  stunning bag, only to put it on your shoulder and realize that the purse is wearing you; not the other way around. I’ve returned many a shoulder bag or tote in my time in favor of smaller options that just looked better on my frame. (My Mango The Row dupe, for instance, had to be traded in for the more petite-friendly size.)  Needless to say, I’m a big, big fan of the East-West bag trend that’s emerging for 2026.

Known for their horizontal shape, these bags tend to be on the smaller side. Not so small that you can’t fit anything in them (the mini bag is a no for me), but small enough that they won’t overpower your frame. I’ve been oogling this Parisa Wang Gabrielle version for months, but in the meantime, this Pretty Little Thing  option seen on the arm of Real Housewives of Cheshire’s Elle Egar is doing the trick.

If you’ve been seeing spots as of late, you’re not alone: Polka dot dresses have officially taken over. All summer long, the tried-and-true print has been rearing its maximalist head, and now, it’s primed and ready to take on fall 2025—just add your transitional jacket of choice.

Hotter than sumptuous suede fabrics, luxe chocolate hues or wide-leg jeans, this bold pattern is *the* ticket to autumn, and I’ve found five of the best polka dot dresses money can buy—particularly if you happen to be a shortie like me.

The below frocks are all less than $200, come in a variety of colors and will easily fit the 5 foot 2 and under set. (Yes, even the maxis!) If anyone needs me, I’ll just be over here, swanning about in one of these beauties.

1. French Connection Polka Dot Dress

With its full skirt, fitted bodice and whimsical print, this is the exact type of dress Audrey Hepburn would’ve broken hearts all over Rome in—and in ballet flats, no less. I was delighted to find that it was short enough for my 5 foot 2 inch frame—even if I do have to disown my ribcage when zipping it up since it’s so tight up top I can barely breathe. (Worth it.)

2. Urban Outfitters Sonnie Dress

In a sea of solid polka dot dresses, I appreciate the more subtle nod to the print this UO frock gives. (And at less than $50, no less!). The straps leave a little much to be desired (technically, they adjust, but the contraptions on them make a VS bra fastener look luxe—IYKYK), but all in all, it’s a cute, casual option for a hot summer day or a great little transition piece with a leather jacket thrown on top.

3. Socialite Midi Dress

I wasn’t expecting to love this dress as much as I do. Given my height, I was sure that it would drag the floor or look like a potato sack on my petite frame. But it’s cut in such a way that that it somehow works, even without a belt (though you could certainly add one for more shape). It also flows like a goddamn dream—we’re talking main character energy, people!

Every so often, a show comes along that represents the fashion of a generation. In the late ‘90s, it was Sex and the City. In the late aughts, Gossip Girl. While the world might have pegged …And Just Like That to be the crowning sartorial jewel of the late 2020s, SATC’s lifeblood, costume designer Patricia Field (you might also recognize her work from The Devil Wears Prada), left Carrie Bradshaw behind and moved onto more stylish pastures with Netflix’s Emily in Paris. She made the right move: By the end of its first season, Emily in Paris fashion had effectively become the new style standard. Now in season 4, Field has been succeeded by Marilyn Fitoussi per W, but the show’s sartorial influence remains strong.

The Parisian gang of Mindy, Cami, Emily and Sylvie returned for another dose of wardrobe inspo on Aug. 15, and after binging every episode in less than 48 hours, I’ve broken down their looks into eight trends that are sure to set the style tone of fall 2024 — and beyond. From the cast’s head-turning monochrome getups to the return of the beret, here are the fads you’ll be scrambling for come fall. (And ahead of Emily in Paris season 4, part 2, which returns on Sept. 12.)

Emily in Paris Fashion Trends

1. Monochrome

Emily has always been a fan of color, and the trend continues in a very noticeable way for season 4. From Mindy’s cobalt blue mini dress to Emily’s head-to-toe canary yellow getup (see above), it’s all about monochromes. A standout moment for the trend? Emily’s bold blue suit, which adds to the drama of her surroundings as she visits Claude Monet’s breathtaking garden.

2. Masculine Suiting

Season 4 marks a bit of a departure from Emily’s typical “girlie-girl” aesthetic as we start to see her incorporating more masculine suiting and severe hairstyles into her look. The change is seemingly reflective of her character’s growth: The structured suit-and-tie grouping lends an edge that’s matches her newfound steel in matters of the heart, work, et. al.

3. Stripes

While the polka dots that reigned supreme in season 3 of EIP are still very much present in season 4, stripes are giving them a run for their money as Emily’s pattern du jour. They’re strewn across the red-and-black top she wears to a department store beauty launch. They’re peeking out from beneath her layered vest at lunch (see below). They’re on display in the red-and-white blazer she wears on the kiss cam with Alfie. Frankly, It isn’t hard to see the pattern here (see what I did there?).

4. Layered Looks

Emily is no stranger to mixing and matching unexpected designs, and in season 4, she’s taking things one step further, mixing and matching her textures (and adding an extra layer of warmth in the process). While her vest-and-button-down combo is undoubtedly comprised of two separate pieces, there are plenty of pre-layered options you can pick up that make nailing the look a cinch (perfect if you’re a lazy dresser, like me).

5. Burgundy

Buffy may have worn it first, but Emily is living proof that burgundy has risen from its 90s grave. And you don’t have to wait for a trickle-down effect to snag it: It’s currently available in your garden variety mini skirts, croc boots, bags, cargos … need I go on?

6. Berets

Naturally, a show about Paris is bound to have a beret or two —there’s at least one nod to the French cap each season — but it’s been a minute since Emily and company leaned into the chic accessory this hard. (Seriously, I counted three in the season 4 press shots alone). There’s probably good reason for that: As Refinery 29 points out, the trend has recently spread beyond European borders, with Aussies jumping onboard for their May fashion week.

7. Ultra-Oversized Coats

If Emily’s season 4 outerwear is any indicator, there’s just one feature you should be looking for when it comes to an “it” topper this season: It should be large enough to swallow you whole. The vivacious brunette was spotted in several ultra-oversized coats, all of which she was practically drowning in. (See her Isabel Marant Carolina teddy coat (above, $531), or her multicolored faux fur Missoni getup.

8. Ruffle Details

Perhaps in contrast to Emily’s more masculine suiting, ruffle details were popping up all over in season 4, from the necklines of her Chanel-inspired blouses to the plackets of Cami’s button-downs. As one of the more wearable trends to come out of Emily in Paris, I foresee this fad sticking with us for some time — and I’m perfectly OK with that.

2024 Emily in Paris Collaborations

In honor of season 4, several brands have created special Emily in Paris fashion (and drink!) collaborations that will make it easier than ever to mimic the show’s heroine — and I got a sneak peek at them all.

• Diff Eyewear x Emily in Paris: Are you an Emily? A Cami? A Sylvie? Doesn’t matter — there’s a Diff pair of sunnies for you. The hot pink Emilys above are just a smidge too large for my peanut-sized head (I think I might have better luck with the Camilles, based on the frames), but I love the bold pop of color they provide an otherwise basic black ensemble. (Emily would definitely approve) Each pair also comes with the most darling beret (also sold separately), which reads “C’est chic” across the side — accurate.

• Maison Lillet x Emily in Paris: I admittedly wasn’t familiar with apertifs prior to receiving this press package, but after tried both the blanc and rosé versions of Lillet’s Emily in Paris collab, let me just say: big fan. Huge. According to my friend Janice, who knows a thing or two about the subject (she’s a director of national accounts for a wine company who’s been featured in Tasting Panel magazine), an apertif is a dry, low-alcohol spirit that’s typically served before a meal, as it’s thought to increase your appetite. While it can be bitter on its own, it’s f*cking delicious when paired with champagne (think the best spritz of your life — it’s completely replaced my mimosa fetish, since it’s less sugary-sweet and far more balanced), and according to Jan, Lillet is great in margs, too.
  
• Vahdam Tea x Emily in Paris: With flavors like La Vie en Rose, Ingenue Violet and Voila! Vanilla, Vahdam’s Emily collection is packed with all the flavors of Paris, but if you can’t choose just one, you’d do well to opt for the assortment pack. It’s got nine different flavors packaged together in a calendar-slim pack that won’t take up any room in your cupboard but will make tea time infinitely more mod.

I’m not typically one for following the “cores” of TikTok. For the most part, they’re over faster than you can buy the things you need to rock them, anyway. (You know, sans for Barbiecore, which just refused to die.) But when it comes to the first big fashion trend of the year—the mob wife aesthetic—I have absolutely zero objections.

You see, looking like a mob wife is all about maximalism—and I’m nothing if not a maximalist. While the rest of the world was busy buying into Sofia Richie’s totally chic but totally snooze-worthy quiet luxury, I was busy squealing with delight over whatever the hell this was at Schiaparelli. But alas, we’re getting off topic! The point is, anything that’s uniquely over-the-top has my full seal of approval. “OK, great—but what the hell is it?” you ask. Well, friends, keep reading to be enlightened.

What Is the Mob Wife Aesthetic Trend?

According to Kayla Trivieri, who is credited with coining the term and sparking the TikTok craze, the mob wife aesthetic is all about “cheetah prints,” “sparkle,” “glitz” and “bold glamour.” “This is just a vibe,” she says in one video explaining the trend.

Heavily inspired by the style seen in The Sopranos (which, incidentally, is celebrating its 25^th anniversary), the look consists of a typically black or animal-patterned base (maybe with a little leather thrown in for good measure), a furry overcoat, oversized sunglasses and blinged-out accessories. Essentially, your ensemble should command attention, and plenty of it.

Should you need a visual, they’re not hard to find—everyone from Halsey to Khloé Kardashian has been hopping onboard the trend. It’s been my own person *lewk* for a while now—as evidence, I offer up this 2021 throwback featuring my beloved David Bitton by Buffalo coat that my boyfriend not-so-affectionately dubbed “the bird.” Before it met its demise at the dry cleaner (a word to the wise—faux fur and extreme heat don’t always mix), I wore it everywhere, to everything, because not only was it the warmest piece of outerwear in my closet, it was absolutely f*cking fabulous. Paired with some red faux leather leggings and a studded hat, it was an ensemble that stood out in a sea of boring black puffer coats—which is precisely the aim of the mob wife aesthetic.

Below, the eight pieces you’ll need to conjure up your own version.

Mob Wife Aesthetic Clothes

1. A Good Faux Fur Coat

The first thing every mob wife wannabe needs in her closet is a good faux fur coat—bonus points if it comes in some kind of animal print. (See no. 4.) Note the heavy  emphasis on the faux: Even the OG mob boss wife, Edie Falco, a.k.a. Carmela Soprano, knows the real deal is bunk, denouncing new and vintage furs in a  statement to The Hollywood Reporter. As she so vividly explained, “The Sopranos had nothing on the violence of the fur industry which gasses, electrocutes and peels the skin off animals while they’re still alive. No matter if it’s new or vintage, torture doesn’t belong in our closets.” Hear f*cking hear!

2. A Black Base

Barbie pink? Not for a mob wife. For ladies this badass, it’s all black, all the time—or at least most of the time. A black bodycon dress, like this Guess option, will provide the perfect backdrop for your fuzzy overcoat, although a tight black bodysuit or top will also do the trick. Advises mob wife enthusiast @trovlov, “You want to look like you’re headed to a funeral.” (But a glam one.)

3. Chunky Gold Jewelry

When it comes to accessories, the chunkier the better. You’re a mob wife now, and you’re here to make a statement. From here on out, regardless of your skin tone, Mini Me will have nothing on how much you love gollllldddd. You’re going to want to be absolutely dripping in it, and the heavier, the better. These St. Moran chain link danglers look like they weigh 10 pounds, so they should suffice.

4. Animal Prints Galore

Now that you’ve got your look-at-me outerwear and your baddy bling, it’s time to master the art of the cheetah print. (Or the leopard print. Or the tiger. Or the snake.) Whatever animal print your little heart desires, it will serve you well in copping the mob wife aesthetic. You can pair it with a black base piece (the above blouse will go well with some skinny black ponte pants) or wear it in place of it. (Cat-licious bodysuit, anyone?)

5. Oversized Sunnies

Mob wives know a thing or two about keeping things under wraps—including their peepers. To nail the look, you’ll want to opt for the biggest, most ostentatious pair of shades you can find. The shape doesn’t matter so much—get whatever suits your face best, as long as it’s large enough to cover at least half of it. (I’m partial to a cat eye myself.) You can also up the ante with some gold embellishments, like the ones these Le Specs provide.

6. Lots of Leather

Leather, or rather, faux leather (refer back to Falco’s statement in No. 1)  has a certain “don’t f*ck with me vibe” that will be totally befitting your new identity. (Think Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny—aka one of the greatest movies of all time.) Just like you, it will project an aura of fierceness. It commands attention, and it doesn’t ask twice. Don’t be afraid to really commit, either—as a newly inducted mob wife, you can wear the fabric from head to toe without a second thought.

7. Thigh-High Boots

As Trivieri explains, “the mob wife shoe should always double as a weapon.” (Think: a pointy, croc-print stiletto heel.) After all, as she reasons, “the higher the heel, the closer to God.” While any old Louboutin with a 4-inch stiletto should do the trick, if you really want to go the extra mile, you’ll want to find a killer pair of thigh-highs. They’ll go great with your new uniform (a.k.a. that black bodycon dress), they could certainly cause some damage in a fight, ticking off that weapon prereq, and they’re sure to turn heads.

8. A “Chic” Handbag

Now, for the pièce de résistance—a chic handbag. Any expensive-looking bag that borders on gaudy should do the trick. Loaded with logos? Totally fine. Overly clunky gold hardware? All the better to match your new chains. Shiny, quilted, anything goes—preferably in a shade of black, brown or burgundy, according to @comeforvintage. As for size, “under the shoulder” is apparently the preferred option, so you can “carry it like a baby.” Alrighty, then!

I’ve always loved a good French manicure. In college, they were my signature, because they made me feel so grown-up and fancy. (Shoutout to all the acrylic appointments I’m probably still paying for via my student loans. 😬) While I’m more prone to color these days (I’m all lacquered up in OPI A Good Man-darin Is Hard to Find, $10), I still get a French from time to time. They’re clean, they’re classy and they go with every outfit imaginable. So naturally, it makes perfect sense that I would fall head over heels for their sartorial equivalent: contrast-trim clothing.

I first noticed this micro trend popping up in swimwear. In the blink of an eye, it seemed like every Baywatch-style one-piece out there (so, every swimsuit released for 2023) suddenly got a elevated twist in the form of a white contrast trim—and bikinis weren’t too far behind.

Since then, it’s been steadily creeping into other clothing categories, from two-piece sets (see: my Reformation Robbie getup, $248) to jumpsuits and dresses, even trickling down into fast-fashion (this New York & Co. design, $74, is a dead-ringer for Staud’s Dolce dress, $245).

My prediction?  Unlike the bullshit mermaidcore, cottagecore and every other “core” trends Gen Z is making up on TikTok faster than a rabbit can procreate, this is one micro trend that will stick  around well into fall, since it’s perfectly poised to upgrade your basic cardi (this Mo&Co. number, $245, already has my heart). 

And why not? Just like the French manicure, it goes with just about everything (this J.Crew tank, $35, has quickly become one of the most versatile things in my wardrobe), and it’s timeless enough to wear even after the next big thing takes over.

There are two ways to approach autumn: kicking and screaming, or with open arms. Though I’ve found myself in the former camp thus far (what can I say? I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Michigan lake life), my closet is firmly planted in the latter. The second the temperature drops, I’ll be ready with all the fall 2022 fashion trends it can hold—or, at the very least the ones I’m into (no utility pants for me, now or ever—#shudder). Below, seven fads that did make the cut, from plazacore to the return of the shacket.

1. Leather Blazers

I recently wrote an article on the best celebrity style moments from the ’90s (stay tuned for that piece on PEOPLE), and while there were a lot of trends I cringed to revisit (those butterfly hair clips had to go, guys), I found myself re-enamored with the leather blazer that had a chokehold on everyone from Winona Ryder (my personal style goddess) to Gwyneth Paltrow … so much so that I immediately had to find one of my own.

2. Baguette Bags

The older I get, the more in tune I become with what works for me style wise. And while I’d love to be able to fit a bit more in my bag, the fact of the matter is, I look ridiculous carrying a huge oversized tote on my 5-foot-2-inch frame. These cute little baguette purses (another ’90s trend, might I add), look chic—not silly—when slung over my shoulder.

3. Granny Sweaters

Naturally, this one has its roots in Coastal Grandmother. While I’m not quite a bucket hat-meets-linen dress and clamdiggers kind-of-gal, I can (and do!) sincerely appreciate the allure of a cozy granny sweater. The cashmere Quince one I’m sporting here is not only the softest jumper I’ve ever owned, it has the perfect amount of slouchiness to it. 4. The Shacket

I was introduced to the shacket last year by Brunette the Label (the same brand behind the only sweatshirt I’ve ever used the L-word with), and it feels like this one’s gonna be more than a one-season pony. It has all the same grunginess of your favorite beloved flannel, only with a bit more heft.

5. Plazacore

I can barely keep up with all the “cores” coming out of TikTok at rapidfire speed. Tenniscore. Balletcore. Barbeicore. WHEN DOES IT END, PEOPLE? This latest one, however, which is basically a grown-up spin on Eloise at the Plaza (she’s a mini Blair Waldorf, as my writer so aptly described it to me), is chock-full of pearls, tweed and bows—all things I can get on board with, It’s preppy, it’s pretty and it’s about to be all over the place (thank you, Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for giving me a jump-start on it with this little Julia Jordan number).

6. Sweater Vests

Blogger Madison Messer singlehandedly sold me on the sweater vest with this photo last fall. Now that I’ve acquired a similar top, dress and pair of tights, I’m ready to recreate her look.

7. Cape Coats

The minute I saw this little capelet, I knew I had to have it. It’s completely different from any coat I’ve ever owned, for one thing. It’s perfectly transitional, for another. It’s also 50 percent off at Nordstrom Rack. SOLD.

This year, I’m more than ready to pack away my tired ass chunky sweaters in favor of all the sundresses, sandals and pinafores I can handle. In fact, I’ve been practically salivating over all the sunny weather finds I’ve been peeping in window displays.  I’ve also been taking a few mental notes.

Practically overnight, a handful of trends have all but taken over at nearly every store you’re likely to step foot in this season, with few (if any!), exceptions. But don’t take my word for it — check out the curated photographic proof below!

1. Buttons:

Forget zippers, bows, ties or any other type of clothing fastener you’ve come in contact with up until this moment in your life — this year, it’s all about buttons. Almost every single store I perused had added buttons, both functional and nonfunctional, to at least a third of it’s inventory seemingly overnight. Why? Who knows, but the fashion Gods that be have mandated this happening, and if you want to be on trend, you’d better get on board. Scroll through the slides above for inspo.

2. Mules

Mules have been steady creeping onto the footwear scene for some time now (see my guide to all things ugly shoes), and spring 2019 sees them hitting a fever pitch — particularly those with a wedge or block heel. It makes sense, really: They’re far more comfortable (and, let’s be real, more practical) than a stiletto, yet still offer a little sumthin’ sumthin’ in the lift department. While I don’t advise a chunky shoe for *every* outfit — there’s a few you can’t force no matter HOW cute the shoe is — I’m all for them where they make sense! 3. Linen Fabrics

As with this season’s chosen footwear, the M.O. in the fabric department for spring 2019 seems to boil down to one thing and one thing only: comfort. Retailers seem to be unloading spandex, nylon and rayon at the speed of light in favor of an old standby: cotton. That’s right — the 7,000 year-old textile (give or take a few years) is back with a vengeance. While there are a number of reasons why clothing companies might favor this tried-and-true staple (like, oh, say, it’s durability, hypoallergenic properties or breathability in heat), my money’s on its green benefits: We are in environmental crisis, after all. 4. Rainbow Prints

ICYMI, rainbow prints are no longer just for Pride. A surge of color has exploded onto fabrics this season, covering everything from slinky tube dresses and tees to skirts and jumpsuits. Sure, it’s not exactly for the faint of heart — or those with an aversion to color (I’m looking at you, crazy J) — but it’s a fun way to add some oomph to your closet. Scroll to see for yourself!

5. Paper Bag Waists

I couldn’t tell you exactly when this particular waistline began to eclipse, well, all of the rest of them, but I can tell you that you’ll be a whole lot more versed in the craze by the time the season’s through. This textile equivalent of closing your fist around a paper lunch sack requires copious amounts of gathered fabric near one’s waistline — and a little imagination. Scroll for just that.

6. Raffia Bags

Listen up, ladies: It’s time to put away those business-like leather totes and tap into your fun side. In the here and now, it’s all about straw, raffia and bamboo bags with plenty of character, frivolity (yes, it’s a word) be damned. Scroll through for some serious purse envy.

For years now, I haven’t been able to traipse a single block without a sighting of one of these walking sleeping bags and quite frankly? I’m over it. North Face, Canada Goose and every other brand on the planet, it seems, has adopted the design, taking over closets the world over. Look, I get it — puffers are practically synonymous with warmth. But I need more. I want functionality and style from my coat, and while we’re at it, a little originality, if you please!

At long last, however, the tide is beginning to turn, and the sea of live marshmallows has begun to recede, making way for a new coat style to dominate 2019 that’s warm, budget-friendly, and, most importantly, adorable (no, but really — it’s named after a stuffed animal, for f*ck’s sake).

Enter the teddy bear coat! This shaggy, fuzzy material is popping up everywhere as of late — particularly when it comes to jackets. And why not? It’s basically the equivalent of wrapping yourself in the fur of your favorite childhood toy.

It’s New York Fashion Week once again, which means the style Gods have spoken when it comes to our collective sartorial fate for yet another season. This time around, it was spring/summer 2019 up to bat, and while us regular folk won’t see the concepts from these lines beginning to trickle down through to the Forever 21 masses for quite some time, you can still get a leg up on the incoming trends (all thanks to my diligent research, of course). Read on to find out what’s in, what’s out and everything in between.

1. Bell Bottoms: The memo at NYFW SS19 shows was clear: The time for skinny jeans to shine is O-V-E-R. Rather it’s wide-leg pants — A.K.A. bell bottoms — that will soon be all the rage. Everyone from Michael Kors and Staud to Marcel Ostertag sent oversized, flared pant legs down the runway, each with its own spin: MK, for instance, fully embraced the ‘70s flower power of the retro silhouette while Marcel Ostertag opted for jazzed up tasseled embellishments and tiered designs instead. Quite frankly, they all looked a bit like clown pants to me, but hey, I’m just the messenger — in fact, I called this one months ago. If that’s your thing, I present these SheIn Layered Ruffle Bell-Bottom Pants without further commentary.

2. Massive Shoulders: Pants aren’t the only clothing item getting a supersized makeover for next spring: We’ve also got the expansion of shoulder silhouettes to ridiculous proportions to look forward to! This goes far beyond any shoulder pads you may remember from the ‘80s, folks — I’m talking structural oddities the likes of which you’ve never seen. Calvin Luo, for one, gives new meaning to the phrase “boxy” with its uber-wide tops while Kaimin — the same group behind fall 2018’s pubic wigs — took things up a notch with what can only be described as full-on bat wings. The lesson here? The bigger, the better, and this Bagatelle ruffled denim jacket is as good a start as any.

 3. Fierce Fringe: While I’m personally batting a trend score of 0 for 2 here, I can’t hate on the strands of fringe that all but took over catwalks at Coach, Michael Kors and Marcel Ostertag. From cowgirl boots and bags that appeared to be straight out of the wild West to colorful, flapper-like skirts and frocks, the SS19 runway was packed with swingy threads. A quick journey through online shopping browser confirms the growing fad: Already, there’s fringed jackets, fringed jeans and even fringed sneakers (thanks, Katy Perry) to be found on racks, with no signs of slowing down.

 4. Ruffles galore: I couldn’t quite tell if I was viewing photos from fashion week or a bad ’80s prom while sorting through the looks at Marc Jacobs, but either way, there appeared to be one very common denominator here: a f*ck ton of ill-placed ruffles. This, dear readers, was a case of fabric overload intense enough to make the Choies top above look like mere child’s play in comparison and leave me to wonder if the poor models would ever find their way out from beneath the layers. *Shudder*

 5. Double Layering: Now that we’ve revived the ‘70s with bell bottoms and figuratively traveled back to the ‘80s,  what with the big ass shoulders and heinous ruffles, it’s time to revisit the ‘90s. Easy enough, considering Paris Hilton strutted her stuff on the Namilia runway in tear-away pants (yes, you read that right). Anoraks and rain slickers were also out in full force, as was a dated combo I haven’t laid eyes on since my days of thumbing through dELiAs catalogs as a clueless teen: the elusive double layer. Spotted both on the runway (Maryam Nassir Zadeh) and on the street (I see you, Camila Caelho!), tanks (or    are back, baby — love it or leave it?
