I like to think I’m a pretty festive person. While you won’t catch me in an ugly Christmas sweater anytime soon, I enjoy eggnog, I drag my boyfriend out to see Christmas lights at the Lincoln Park Zoo every year (though we switched things up for 2018 at the Morton Arboretum, which, can I just say, was f*cking MAGICAL!) and I’ll belt out Christmas jams with the best of ‘em — particularly if it happens to be “O Holy Night” by The Oak Ridge Boys, because it’s the best goddamn Christmas song known to man AND my grandpa Vern can sing the low part just like Richard Sterban (Google it, millennials).
And yet … after seeing the latest Christmas trend that’s blowing up on Instagram, everything I thought I knew about holiday cheer has suddenly been challenged.
It’s no longer enough to simply put up a tree (or a wreath, if you happen to own curious cats, like us!) and call it a day. Apparently, there’s a group of men out there going, “You know what? F*ck decking the halls. I’ve got perfectly good real estate ON MY FACE.”
Enter the #Christmasbeard: The male equivalent of the #holidaybrow (which, in case you missed THAT trend, is the art of turning your eyebrows into full-blown Christmas trees. I haven’t even mastered filling mine in, and these Bs are out here designing brow branches, complete with décor. But, I digress!).
Anyway, a Christmas beard is exactly what it sounds like: facial hair that’s been Christmas-fied with all the glitter, ornaments and blinking lights a dude can plant in his scruff.
So popular is this growing trend, in fact, there’s a company called Beardaments (I shit you not) that exists solely to help you trick your beard out for the holiday. There’s your standard red and green mini clip-on ornaments ($12 for a pack of 12), a 4pc. colored glitter set that comes with a handy brush and oil ($20) and, the holy grail: light-up mini ornaments ($25 for a 16pc. set).
Or, you could get creative and use what you’ve got: Behold, a few examples from early adopters of the trend below!
Merry and Bright
1. @mikedaymusic used ornaments of varying shapes, colors and sizes to show off his holiday spirit.
Getting Lit
2. @thomas370z, meanwhile, went the extra mile, rigging actual lights into his scruff.
The Gift That Keeps on Giving
3. @doedslyft, who received these merry adornments as a gift, was willing to endure a little pain for the sake of the giving season.”#F*ckithurts,” he wrote.
All Aglow
4. @bearded.mikey combined soft red lights and colorful bulbs for a one-two punch of cheer that Saint Nick himself would no doubt commend.

5. @ninjaruiz added a musical element to his Christmas getup with ornaments that sound just like Santa’s sleigh bells.
Your move, ladies.
