You know how they say “Those who can’t do, teach?” Those who can’t shop, window shop. And sans for a quick dip in the Gulf of Mexico during which a dolphin swam right past me in shallow water (true story!) and a beer over at Whiskey Joe’s, that’s exactly what I’ve been doing all weekend long, despite my lack of funds. Unlike Prime Day or Black Friday (both big sales I shop for my job as a Commerce Director), Labor Day fashion sales are particularly prime for the picking. Not only are stores looking to clear out their old summer inventory, many are also offering discounts on the new fall goods, too. The bad news? Most of these sales end at midnight, which means you don’t have a whole lot of time left to shop them. The good news? I already scoured them for all the best items.
Since time is short, you’ll want to dive right in: These are the eight sales worth your time—and the items worth buying from them. A few will inevitably be extended, giving you a few more hours to get the goods (though given stock, I’d get them earlier than later).
1. Abercrombie & Fitch
The discount at Abercombie & Fitch isn’t huge—25 percent with an extra 15 percent off through tonight, Sept. 4—but it doesn’t need to be. Even with these slight discounts, you can get a cute going-out top for less than $25, a pair of loafers for less than $100 and an LBD for less than $70. Done and done!

2. J.Crew
J.Crew is offering a decent enough sale—you’ll get an extra 60 percent off sale items and 40 percent off full price ones with coupon code SHOPNOW through tonight, Sept. 4, at midnight. While some of the best items are excluded from the sale (typical—*eye roll*), I found a few gems buried within the site’s pages. (See: That sweater blazer that’s calling my name, Florida weather be damned.)
Marcella NYC
Marcella NYC is a brand you’re not likely to see on every other Labor Day sales list out there—namely because most people have never heard of it. Having ordered several pieces from it now, however (I own both the Cara top and the Marcy top, both of which are part of the sale), I can confirm it’s definitely worth a look. The pieces are well-made, reasonably priced and offer something just a little bit unique—which is one of the reasons it’s quickly becoming a favorite. Through tomorrow, Sept. 5, it’s offering discounts between 15 to 50 percent sitewide. You’ll also get a cute little canvas tote when you spend $100 bones.
Nordstrom
Technically, Nordstrom isn’t having a Labor Day sale so much as a “summer sale”—end date TBD. That said, there’s still plenty of fall finds hidden within, including the Treasure & Bond sweater mini dress and pumpkin spice-colored cable-knit Free People sweater I picked up during the recent Anniversary Sale. Items are up to 84 percent off, though most are between 30 to 50. Cardmembers can also earn up to $60 in free cash, a.k.a.”bonus notes.”
Mango
Technically, there’s not a whole lot that’s on sale at face value here. But if you plan to stock up, you’re in luck. Through tonight, Sept. 4, you’ll get 30 percent off just about anything you have your eye on with code EXTRA30 when you spend $200 or more. (That’s about two to three items at Mango.) Hey, anything I can do to get my hands on this little jewel-button cardi for less!
Anthropologie
Shopping an Anthropologie sale is kind of like picking you way through a flea market—a lot of things will be too wild for your tastes or be picked over, but if you happen to find a gem in your size before it sells out, it can make your whole day. (This tweed jacket, for instance, is an Emily in Paris-worthy find if I ever saw one.) The sale section is an extra 40 percent off, furniture is up to 50 percent off and beauty is 20 percent off.
Nordstrom Rack
Everyone knows that Nordstrom has great deals, but don’t sleep on Nordstrom Rack. In addition to the Clear the Rack clearance that’s going on through Sept. 4 with up to 75 percent off everything from Marc Jacobs to Levi’s (you better believe I snagged the little hot pink Barbie pleather jacket below), cardholders will get extra bonus notes (that’s basically free cash), with an extra $10 when they spend $75, $20 when they spend $100, $30 with $150 and $60 with $250.
Bloomingdale’s
I have a confession to make: I like Bloomingdale’s better than Nordstrom. While the customer service at Nordstrom can’t be beat, Bloomie’s typically has the better selection. A lot of times, there’s younger, more edgier finds (think less “Nantucket mom” and more “stylish older sister”). While this sale, which offers an extra 30 percent off clearance items through tonight, Sept. 4, isn’t the most amazing I’ve seen from the company, I’m intrigued by this Gracia dress, now less than $100, and this adorbs little Varsity jacket.
