I know what you’re thinking: two blog posts in one week? What did I do to deserve this!? Well, my friends, it just so happens to be fashion month, and there’s a lot of ground to cover, so here we are. Now that we’ve seen the most bizarre finds to ever make their way down the catwalk, we’ve arrived at the undeniable inspo that seems to be threading them all together: Disney.
That’s right! The same company that gave us hours of entertainment in our youth (or, if you’re me, during your weekends as an adult) is popping up as the unclaimed muse behind design houses the world over. See for yourself below!
1. Rocky Gathercole — Alice in Wonderland: First up, we have Filipino creative Gathercole, who called upon Alice in Wonderland (my favorite book and Disney movie of all time — I sniff at your Frozens and Tangleds!) to lend its magic to his runway vision. Not only were the playing cards present in nearly every outfit seen during the NYFW presentation, the Queen of Hearts would’ve delighted to see all the sartorial homages being paid to her (as did I).

2. Dion Lee — Robin Hood: Forget Maid Marian — clearly, it was the fellas of Disney’s animated Robin Hood classic that had it going on in the wardrobe department. After all, long before models at Dion Lee were strutting their stuff in these olive green polos, padded skirts, and tan… vest tunics?, Robin and Little John were working it side-by-side in the pauper’s version (plus hats, natch).

3. On|Off — The Little Mermaid: You’d have to be more or less blind not to instantly see everyone from Ursula the Sea Witch to Arielle reflected in On|Off’s London showing: hell, even the seashells used to make our heroine’s bra appeared to be part of the lineup! No word on whether dinglehoppers were used on those fancy updos backstage or not, but I *DO* feel a sudden urge to bust out in song (more specifically, “Part of Your World.” ‘Cause I know all the words).
4. Randa Yousrey — Cinderella: There was a *definite* fairytale vibe going on at Egyptian designer Randa Yousrey’s show, what with all the romantic powder blue tulle. All that’s missing are the GD glass slippers! (And the pumpkin. And the prince. Whatever, close enough.)
5. Divamp Couture — Sleeping Beauty: Apparently Maleficent (or her next of kin), showed up to Divamp Couture, albeit sans her raven, Diaval (Don’t worry, I had to Google him, too). She appeared to have gotten a makeover, however, with a futuristic metallic corset and a face mask where her tattered old cloaks once were. Hey, even villains need their time to shine!
What’s the best Disney movie of all time? Sound off in the comments below (just know you’re wrong if you don’t say Alice in Wonderland).
